Guide to using this site

Welcome to CARE Australia’s Global Poverty Teacher’s Toolkit.

These resources are designed to provide teachers with compelling and illustrative content designed to engage students on a range of issues related to poverty and inequality. Topics cover learning modules ideal for subjects such as health and human development, social studies, geography, international studies, economics and media studies.

Each topic includes teaching tools such as fast facts, videos, and stories designed to spark curiosity and enhance classroom discussion.

CARE sees education as vital to improving lives. Whether it be in health, sanitation or gender equality, education leads to better outcomes and brighter futures. In sharing the realities of poverty with students, we aim to help them understand their vital role in assisting communities to overcome poverty, and to see them inspired to contribute to positive global change.

UN Secretary General, Mr Ban Ki Moon:

Education promotes equality and lifts people out of poverty. It teaches children how to become good citizens. Education is not just for a privileged few, it is for everyone. It is a fundamental human right.

Ready-to-use tools to easily bring these topics to your classroom and enable you to delve into issues that are affecting more than one billion people around the world. We hope the information will inspire you and your students to join the fight to eliminate poverty and social injustice.
